Thank you Ben & Sebastiaan for using your intelligence, skills, and talent to make a camera like this for the iPhone XR. The only setback is not seeing bokeh in live mode, but it’s no biggie and who knows what exciting features future updates will bring. My photo went straight to the default apple photos app, and reads it as a portrait photo now so I can adjust the blur like I can on people portraits. I took a photo of my dog and I’m in love with its ability to pretty accurately map out data for bokeh shots. I heard about Halide finding a solution to this problem, so I went with the XR and bought this app. I’d been gravitating toward the XR due to the colors, battery life, price, and better lowlight photos, but was devastated it only had portrait mode for people. When I upgraded from a 6, I was torn between the XS and XR. I’m a designer and DSLR photographer, so the camera features on my phone is a big deal to me. The best part is that you can ACTUALLY OWN THE APP. It has presets, you can you pro res videos you can do Timelapse with controls the list goes on and on. You can record with the front and back camera at once if your blogging and recording something I front of you want to show later in post. You can remote control your device from another device like an iPad and see that your recording to see how you would look on frame when the iPhone camera is facing you.

Filmic pro, is one time purchase app and the developers have been working just as hard as these guys giving you manual controls, Vlog, different aspect ratios, you can even link your app to a gimple and control your phones camera manual controls from your gimbals devices button controls. The app is great for people that want to get into photography with the manual controls however I’m going to compare it with the best videography app. Other objects fared slightly better, but they still came out soft and blurry. The fact that this is a yearly subscription and they don’t have you an option to buy it outright is a shame. I tried numerous times to get a shot of this AirPod Pro earbud in focus at close range, but it wasn’t able to lock in on such a small target. As you can see in the samples I took, it does an excellent job of capturing detail at distances where the iPhone would normally snap blurry, out-of-focus shots. It’s not quite as sharp as macro mode on the iPhone 13 Pro, but it’s quite good. The photos I took weren’t as detailed as the macro shots taken with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but they were a bit more color accurate and overall quite impressive, especially when compared to photos taken without macro mode turned on. You can, however, adjust the focus depth with a slider. The app will automatically select the camera with the closest focus distance, which might require repositioning, and you can’t get as close as you can with the iPhone 13 Pro. You need to tap the AF button, then the flower icon. Taking a macro shot isn’t as easy as the iPhone 13 Pro’s automatic switching. The iPhone 13 Pro (left) produced a better macro photo of this apple, but the Halide app with the iPhone 13 wasn’t far behind. Finally, once taken, Neural Macro gets to work: a powerful AI-based detail enhancement process gets even more detail out of your processed image. Then, it gives you ultra-precise focus control to get your teeny-tiny subject perfectly sharp. Halide’s Macro Mode does a few clever things to help you get the best Macro shot: first, it checks which one of your cameras can focus the closest. As the developer explains it: Macro Mode is helped by our new technology called Neural Macro. With version 2.5, available in the App Store now, Halide has introduced a new Macro Mode for all iPhones coupled with an upscaler on iPhones a Neural processor (iPhone 8 and later).

But if you don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars to get it, the latest update to the Halide Mark II camera app will mimic it for a buck a month.

While the 3x telephoto camera, 120Hz ProMotion display, and incredible battery life are all great reasons to buy the iPhone 13 Pro, the biggest upgrade over every other iPhone is a much smaller feature: macro mode.
